Upon looking into places to stay in Sorrento, you might run into the same issue I had: steep prices. Thankfully, I discovered a quintessential accommodation for budget-conscious travelers not wanting to skimp on character. Continue reading for my review of the Florida Hostel and Hotel Sorrento!

The Check-In Experience ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

As soon as I checked into the hotel, I was impressed by the friendly staff willing to make my stay as comfortable as possible. I had a late arrival in Naples and had pre-booked private transportation that the hotel offered. As I was arriving late as a female solo traveler, I wanted to go the safer route.

The driver worked frequently with the hotel and was nothing short of accommodating, offering me water and engaging in a fun conversation for the entirety of the ride.

After dropping me off, the man at the front desk was happy to welcome me, even though it was nearing midnight. The transportation cost gets paid directly to the hotel in cash. Although I didn’t have cash on me at the time, he had no issues with me paying the following day.

He personally directed me to my room and answered any questions of mine before I retired for the night. After a long travel day, I was so grateful for this easy check-in experience and had nothing but rave reviews for the front desk staff at the Florida Hostel and Hotel Sorrento.

The Room  ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

I was rather impressed with the shared dorms at this hostel. While I cannot vouch for the private hotel rooms, the dorms were clean and secluded. There was a spacious locker for each individual and an ensuite bathroom.

While I prefer when hostel dorms have curtains by the beds, I still enjoyed the sleeping accommodations here and found myself quite comfortable each night. There was a thermostat to control the temperature, as the summer temps can make the room quite humid. Turning the temperature down at nighttime was a game-changer!

Our room of six beds even had a private outdoor patio! This was a unique feature that I’d never seen in other hostels.

Lastly, the wifi worked extremely well throughout the entire property. Since I was working remotely while here, I had been nervous about this leading up to the trip, as hostel wifi can be unpredictable. Thankfully, I faced no issues!

The Amenities and Common Areas ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I give a five-star rating to the amenities and common areas of the Florida Hostel and Hotel Sorrento, earning the property stellar reviews in my eyes. Others who stayed there agreed — this felt more like a resort than a hostel!

The property has a collection of lemon trees, which brings Sorrento’s heart and soul directly to the guests. Under these lemon trees, you’ll find various seating arrangements, allowing you to dine under or lounge under the citrus itself.

On Friday evenings, the hostel/hotel offers a pizza night, in which a chef prepares pizza and cooks it in the property’s authentic wood oven. You’ll have a set menu to choose from at an affordable price. Drinks are also available to order. This ended up being the best pizza I had in the town!

The property also includes a lovely pool and lounging area with the iconic Italian tanning chairs with sun visors. Located next to the pool bar and restaurant, you can enjoy drinks by the pool in this little hideaway.

Dining by the pool is a must at least once during your stay. I enjoyed ordering the region’s popular limoncello spritz, grabbing tiramisu, and indulging in fine Italian cuisine.

The Location ⭐⭐⭐

The Florida Hostel and Hotel Sorrento is around a ~25-minute walk from the main square and port. It only takes about ~15-20 minutes to walk from the train station, if this is how you’ll be arriving in town.

While the hotel was a bit of a further walk than I would’ve liked, it offered a secluded atmosphere away from the tourists that I appreciated. Once walking to the main road, it’s pretty much a straight shot into the main square, making it an easy route to memorize. Walking back at night can be a bit dark once away from the main areas, so I recommend using your phone’s flashlight or walking back with a buddy.

Overall, it was easy to walk to all the main attractions I wished to see and was the perfect oasis to come back to each night.

Value for Money ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Florida Hostel and Hotel Sorrento earned itself a rave review from this seasoned traveler! Normally, when I budget travel, I go into it knowing that I’m sacrificing something in exchange for a cheaper stay. In this case, however, I feel like I gained a better experience than I would’ve had at a name-brand hotel or Airbnb.

The personalization and local flare of this hostel made it a great place to stay! While it was a bit far from the town center, I was impressed by every other aspect of the hostel and found that it had great value for the amount that I spent.

If I have the pleasure of staying in Sorrento again, I have a feeling I’d choose to stay here once more. The property is a great option for anyone from solo travelers to couples due to its versatility as a hostel and hotel.
