How to Spend Your Layover in Barcelona

Eat Churros Con Chocolate

In my opinion, nobody does churros better than Spain. Not only do these churros taste amazing, but most establishments also serve them with chocolate. I wish I could start every day by sitting in a café, dipping churros into a cup of melted chocolate.

Arc de Triomf

The Arc de Triomf is a large arch in Barcelona. It is a lesser-known attraction in the city, but definitely worth seeing if you have some downtime. Once you walk through the arch, you can continue strolling on a path lined with palm trees. There may be some street performers looking to entertain you on your stroll. If you continue walking, you eventually enter Citadel Park, which is a hidden gem I had the pleasure of exploring.

Citadel Park and Cascada Monumental

I had never heard of Citadel Park before. I just so happened to come upon it while exploring the city. This park has different monuments and pretty locations. My favorite part of this park was the beautiful fountain and monument, Cascada Monumental. While this may be a well-known spot to others, I was shocked I had never read about it on any travel blogs or in any research I had done prior to the trip. If you’re looking for a beautiful part of Barcelona to visit during your layover but are not wanting to wait in long lines or pay an entrance fee, this park should definitely be on your itinerary.

Eat Paella

Last but not least, you must indulge in some paella in Barcelona. Paella is a well-known Spanish rice dish. Most of these dishes have seafood. However, I opted not to have seafood in mine. This dish can take quite some time to make, but you will be glad the chef took the time to make this dish as it should be made. Don’t plan on eating it by yourself, though. Paella is made for sharing with two or three others. It’ll leave you boarding your next flight with a full and satisfied stomach.

I’m sure that after spending your layover in Barcelona, the city will have left quite an impression on you. After exploring its hidden gems and eating the best food it has to offer, I’m sure you will spend your next flight dreaming of returning for an even longer trip.
