The Pros and Cons of Staying in an Airstream
Have you ever considered staying in an airstream? Perhaps you’re an individual who desires to live out of an airstream and travel the world. Or maybe you’ve been thinking of trying one out during a short-term vacation. Either way, there are some pros and cons of staying in an airstream that you should consider before making your final decision!
My mom and I had the opportunity to stay in a vintage airstream in the Phoenix area during an extended weekend trip. After finding this deal on Airbnb, I felt like I could not pass up this experience! While it was a unique travel experience, I did come away with a new reality of what it actually is like to live in an airstream.
Pro: Allows for a Nomadic Lifestyle
Though the airstream my mom and I stayed in was stationary for the sake of short-term rentals, I can still see how this type of mobile home is very accommodating for the nomadic lifestyle. Most individuals hook an airstream up to their vehicle and haul it with them to various travel destinations. This offers flexibility and adventurous life for those who are seeking it. For these folks, living in a tiny space is worth it for the spacious world being right outside their front door.
Con: Limited Space
One of the biggest cons of airstreams is the limited space offered. You will have to be inventive with your storage options, installing drawers and other storage areas in every nook and cranny you can find without making it too overcrowded. Living in an airstream, or even vacationing in one, calls for scaling back on material possessions and only traveling with the items you really need. Additionally, this limited space means that you will likely bump into your traveling partner on more occasions than one. When my mom and I stayed in the airstream, we had no door to our bathroom, which also meant asking each other to stay turned around whenever we showered or used the bathroom. While some traveling partners may be alright with less privacy, it is a worthwhile aspect to consider before embarking on this type of trip.
Pro: Timeless Look
Airstreams are one of those retro but also timeless staples that never truly go out of style. This type of design is suitable for many ages and will fit in well with any sort of surrounding. Whether you’re purchasing one for your own use or renting one out for a trip, you’ll most likely never come across an airstream you don’t like. It’s always important to live or vacation in a space you enjoy, one that also reflects your style. This timeless look will ensure you will not grow old of this look in a hurry.
Con: Innovative Cooking
Because of the small kitchen space, you will have to become innovative with your cooking. Some airstreams come equipped with a stove and oven, while most others do not. Additionally, your food will have little storage space, such as a mini-fridge. Many individuals may miss a larger kitchen space, but if you’re really cut out for this lifestyle, then you will ensure that you grow used to this type of living. For those on short-term trips, however, this might not be as much of a bother, especially if you’re hoping to check out restaurants in the area.
