6 Best Cafes in Salida, Colorado

During my month of working remotely in Colorado, I was on the hunt for the best cafes in Salida, especially on days I began to get some cabin fever in my friend's renovated school bus. Thankfully, he was always down to explore these coffee shops, and we ended up finding quite a few options to share.

In this charming mountain town, cafes are more than just places to grab a quick bite – they are havens of community, creativity, and culinary craftsmanship. Whether you're seeking a cozy nook to savor your morning brew or a vibrant hub to mingle with locals and fellow travelers, Salida's cafes are a great place to plant yourself in for a few hours while working on personal tasks or mingling with friends.

Best Cafes in Salida, Colorado

Brown Dog Coffee Co: Brown Dog Coffee Co in downtown Salida can be characterized by its rustic-chic decor and local atmosphere. From freshly baked pastries to warming drinks, we found this coffee shop to be very inviting, returning to read or complete more work. Open daily from 7am-5pm, this local favorite is worth a visit on your trip!

Howl Mercantile and Coffee: Howl Mercantile and Coffee was my absolute favorite business in downtown Salida. Upon stepping inside, you’ll find a retail space with locally-made products and bohemian style. The shelves are adorned with thoughtfully sourced artisanal products, each item a testament to the passion and dedication of local makers.

However, as you walk further back, you’ll find a counter where you can order. From expertly brewed pour-overs to velvety lattes adorned with intricate latte art, the coffee here is a reflection of the same artisanal spirit that defines the mercantile side of the establishment.

Open daily from 9am-5pm, you’ll be able to fill a few hours of your day by getting some work done here and enjoying the bohemian environment.

The Buena Vista Roastery Coffee Shop and Bakery: Although it is technically located outside of Salida, The Buena Vista Roastery Coffee Shop and Bakery was so memorable that it had to make it on this list. Whether you're a fan of robust espresso, a velvety latte, or a classic drip brew, the baristas here take pride in crafting the perfect cup that caters to your preferences.

Station 24 Cafe: As you approach Station 24 Cafe, you'll be drawn in by its unique curb appeal, as it was renovated from a garage into the bustling cafe it is today. The interior is adorned with a touch of vintage nostalgia, creating an atmosphere that harks back to simpler times while offering a modern twist.

Bunny and Clyde’s Corner Cafe and Market: Boasting about its fresh eats and commitment to providing the best coffe, Bunny and Clyde’s was a cafe we continued to talk about visiting. We finally made it here near the tail-end of our trip and enjoyed a change of scenery from our abode in the renovated school bus. With a plethora of outdoor seating, the cafe’s seating options are just as versatile as Salida’s weather!

Mountain Phoenix Coffee Shop: Sometimes, life's most delightful surprises are found in the most unexpected places. Such is the tale of our experience at Mountain Phoenix Coffee Shop, one of our favorite cafes in Salida, Colorado. This hidden gem initially didn't clamor for attention. It was a chance discovery, stumbled upon while driving through Salida, that led us to its doorstep.

As we stepped into Mountain Phoenix, we were met with an ambiance that defied our initial expectations. What appeared unassuming from the outside transformed into a haven of coziness and charm within. The cafe's interior exuded a rustic elegance, with wooden accents and warm lighting that created an atmosphere of comfort and relaxation.

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee enveloped us, inviting us to indulge in a cup of java that promised to be more than meets the eye. As we savored our first sips, it became evident that Mountain Phoenix was a true hidden treasure. We enjoyed reading some new books here that we had just found at a Little Free Library outside a local's home.
